This role is designed for a professional with a foundational understanding of data architecture and a strong interest in Data Engineering and Data Integration As a Data Architect, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing data infrastructure and architecture that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals. You will work closely with IT, data engineering, and business intelligence teams for the design and optimization of data pipelines, storage solutions, and the infrastructure that supports data engineering work. Your key responsibilities in this role will be: Design data integration strategies for Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL) processes to support data analytics and reporting needs, both on-premises and on cloud Work closely with data engineers to ensure alignment of architecture with data pipelines, transformation processes, and storage requirements. Continuously optimize ETL, data pipelines and data storage solutions to improve performance, reduce latency, and minimize costs. Design automation and orchestration solutions (e.g., Apache Airflow, Prefect) to streamline data engineering workflows and reduce manual interventions. Architect data platforms on cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure), ensuring optimal use of cloud services for data storage, processing, and security. Lead cloud migrations or hybrid cloud implementations for data platforms and applications. Ensure data architecture and pipelines adhere to security standards, including encryption, access control, and auditing. Collaborate with security teams to implement data privacy, compliance, and data retention policies (e.g. PCI, GDPR). Actively contribute to Technology Evaluation and Adoption – Stay updated with emerging data technologies and evaluate their relevance to existing architecture. Lead proof-of-concept (POC) projects to adopt new technologies or processes for data engineering. Create comprehensive documentation for data architecture, data pipelines and data engineering processes. Establish and promote best practices for data engineering, ensuring a consistent approach across the organization. What makes you the best person for this job? Qualifications needed to be successful in this role: Background Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in data-related roles, preferably with a focus on data architecture and data engineering in a global or multi-regional context. Demonstrated interest in and understanding of the challenges of data integration in complex systems on a global scale. Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability to work with diverse teams and data systems. Effective communication skills, capable of engaging with team members and stakeholders across different cultures and regions. Technical Skills ETL Tools: Knowledge of ETL processes, with experience in data extraction, transformation, and loading techniques. Familiarity with tools like Informatica Powercenter (preferred), IBM Datastage, Talend or SSIS is highly mandatory. SQL Mastery: Advanced proficiency in SQL is essential, with the ability to analyze and write complex queries, optimize database performance, and manage large datasets. Database Technologies: Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) is mandatory and preferably also familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra). Big Data Technologies: Exposure to big data technologies and frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a mandatory. Cloud Platforms: Exposure to cloud data services and architectures on platforms such as AWS (Amazon Web Services), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, with an understanding of their key services for data storage, processing, and analytics services. Programming Languages: intermediate to proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, PL/SQL, Scala or data manipulation and scripting. Data Visualization: Knowledge of data visualization tools and platforms (e.g. Power BI / Tableau) to represent data insights effectively. Attitude Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in data architecture and management, with a commitment to staying abreast of new technologies and practices in the field. A proactive attitude towards problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team are crucial for success in this role. Additional skills and experience that would make you stand out: Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data-related fields. Data Security: Understanding of data security principles and familiarity with tools and practices to ensure data privacy and compliance in Payment Cards industry (e.g., GDPR, PCI, PSD2). DevOps Tools: Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Docker) for continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) of data solutions.
