Job description: Electronics Engineer Location: Milan, Italy Employment Type: Full-time Start date: January-February-March 2025 We are looking for an Electronic Engineer to join our team and contribute to designing and developing cutting-edge electronics for integrated photonics-based hardware products. You will play a key role in creating high-performance electronic boards and systems for multiple use cases, designing hardware prototypes and production-ready solutions, and developing firmware and software APIs for seamless operation and control. In this role, you will contribute to the full product development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and validation, ensuring our products meet the highest standards of reliability and performance. You will also be constantly exposed to the intricacies of optical and integrated photonic design and testing, often requiring innovative algorithms for calibration and operation. As part of a dynamic, cross-functional team, you will also improve our tools, processes, and products, proactively seeking innovative ways to enhance the way we work and build world-class solutions. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and validate hardware prototypes and production-ready electronic boards , ensuring high reliability, manufacturability, testability, and performance. Create schematic designs (usually mixed analog and digital), simulate circuits, and optimize the cost of the boards. Perform PCB layout design , ensuring signal and power integrity, manufacturability, mechanical integration with physical systems, thermal dissipation, and EMC compliance. Develop firmware for microcontroller-based systems in C/C++ to operate the designed boards and products. Perform in-lab testing, debugging, and validation of electronic boards and full products, ensuring functionality and reliability. Use Python scripting for experiments, instrument control, testing automation, and data analysis. Collaborate with the team to define test plans and ensure successful integration of electronics with photonic-based products. Requirements Core competencies A Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering or related field; 3+ years of relevant industry experience; Strong expertise in the complete process of PCB design and fabrication , including: Component selection and sourcing. Schematic design (mixed analog and digital). Circuit and component simulation. Layout design , ensuring manufacturability, signal integrity, and proper thermal dissipation. Lab testing and debugging of prototypes and production boards. Strong experience in Firmware design for microcontrollers in C/C++; Experience with Altium Designer and electronics simulation software (e.g., Spice); Proficiency in English for effective communication and documentation The following skills are desirable to facilitate integration into the team: Experience with Python for scripting, automation, instrument control, and data analysis. Familiarity with Git for version control and collaborative development. General knowledge of photonics, integrated photonics, and optical networks; Having worked in teams using Agile methodologies; Desirable side competences We value knowledge in the following fields as side competencies: High abstraction level languages (e.g., Python, C++), with a good understanding of object-oriented programming. Familiarity with RF PCB design and high-speed signal integrity; 3D Design of mechanical parts with an understanding of fabrication processes and tolerances; We welcome candidates from every part of the World as our official language is English.
