The following position is now available in the Food Safety Department of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR): Scientific employee for the analysis and evaluation of human biomarkers (f/m/d) Code number 3676 Salary group 13 TVöD Location Berlin Limited for two years Application deadline March 13, 2025 The fixed-term contract is in place based on the Science Temporary Contract Act. The BfR independently prepares reports and statements on questions of food, feed and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany on the basis of internationally recognized scientific assessment criteria. It advises the federal government as well as other institutions and interest groups in these areas. In this way, the BfR makes an important contribution to protecting people. Tasks Development and application of methods in the field of instrumental analysis for measuring different biomarkers of exposure to, for example, heat-related reaction products, per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) and mycotoxins in biological samples Extraction of samples (blood, urine and tissue) from different species using solid-phase extraction and other enrichment methods Development and validation of MS-based analysis methods for the quantitative detection of analytes Isotope dilution UHPLC-MS/MS Scientific involvement in conducting human studies to develop new biomarkers of exposure Assisting in toxicological assessment of contaminants and natural ingredients Presenting results in project reports, scientific publications and lectures Self-employed Planning projects and obtaining third-party funding Supervision of students (bachelor's and master's theses) Maintenance of sample databases Your profile Completed university studies (master's degree, diploma or a comparable university degree) in chemistry, food chemistry, toxicology or a comparable field Sound knowledge and professional experience in the areas of sample preparation (extraction of analytes from biological matrices) and instrumental analysis, especially with mass spectrometric methods (e.g. UPLC-MS/MS) Practical experience with biological samples (blood, urine, tissue) as well as in the analysis of organic environmental contaminants and their metabolites Proof of publication activity Very good knowledge of German and English, both spoken and written Good computer skills as well as a conscientious way of working, flexibility, teamwork and resilience Desired doctoral training for/for Specialist toxicologist Our offer As a family-friendly institute, we offer various part-time working models Flexible working hours without core working hours 30 days holiday (5-day week) and days off on December 24th. and 31.12.
