Position Overview : The Mechanical Design Head will lead and manage the mechanical design team, overseeing the development and implementation of robust mechanical solutions for automotive lighting and plastic product systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a proven track record in automotive product design, plastic product integration, and team leadership. This leadership role demands innovation, strategic oversight, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver superior products. Key Responsibilities : Lead, manage, and mentor a team of mechanical designers and engineers in the creation of mechanical components for automotive lighting and plastic product systems. Oversee the complete mechanical design process, from concept through to final product, ensuring quality, functionality, and manufacturability of designs. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, optical engineering, and manufacturing, to integrate mechanical and optical designs into cohesive product solutions. Ensure that mechanical designs meet performance, durability, safety, and regulatory standards in the automotive industry. Drive innovation in mechanical design and development, identifying and implementing improvements in design processes and methodologies. Evaluate and select appropriate materials, manufacturing techniques, and technologies for the production of automotive lighting components and plastic products. Conduct design reviews, feasibility studies, and cost analysis to ensure that designs are optimal in terms of performance, cost, and manufacturability. Manage the execution of multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required specifications. Provide technical leadership and support to the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in mechanical design and automotive product development, ensuring the company’s offerings remain competitive and innovative. Ensure effective documentation, reporting, and compliance with internal and external standards. Qualifications : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in the automotive or related industries. Strong expertise in mechanical design for automotive systems, with experience in automotive lighting or plastic product design preferred. Proven track record in managing design teams and delivering high-quality mechanical solutions. Proficient in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar) and other relevant design tools. Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and cost optimization in automotive product design. Experience with regulatory standards, quality assurance processes, and product validation in the automotive industry. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership. Proficiency in English (spoken and written); Italian language skills are an advantage. Preferred Skills : Experience with plastic product design and molding processes. Knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies. Familiarity with automotive lighting systems and related regulations. Experience working in a fast-paced, global automotive environment.
