University of Nottingham Italy (UNIT) is a research centre established by the University of Nottingham UK and located in Naples. UNIT is working in synergy with Italian and EU partners on R&D projects offering world-leading expertise and experience developed by the University of Nottingham’s academics and researchers in the field of aerospace electrification. Our key research focus is net zero carbon aircraft, achieved through the development of innovative aircraft electrification technologies. Purpose of the role We invite applications for a research position to work on innovative technologies for onboard electric power systems of future aircraft with hybrid and fully electric propulsion. The position will support delivery of our flagship EU-funded project and is ideal for earlier- and mid-career researchers excited to contribute into this fast-developing area. In particular, we invite applicants who have experience and expertise in power-electronic based systems such as electric drives and power converters, including their design and optimisation, modelling and simulations, as well as their control. Required skills · Master Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Automation or Information Engineering or in a very closely related topic; · Good knowledge in electromechanical systems, including electric machines, power electronic converters and their control and optimisation; · Excellent knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape software and related toolboxes; · Good knowledge of aircraft electric power systems, their architectures and operation principles would be an additional advantage; · Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
