Industry: Spectator Sports and Technology, Information and Media
Seniority for this role: Mid-Senior level
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our ML Production Engineering team. You’ll help design and build world-class ML Feature Pipelines, collaborating closely with Data Science and engineering teams to bring ML/data-driven concepts into an operational state. This role requires a mix of hands-on coding, infrastructure design and mentoring junior engineers. Our pipelines power live and historical ML models across sports domains, including Computer Vision (CV) data for real-time predictions. If you’re passionate about Python, scalable systems, and experimenting with cutting-edge technologies, this role is for you! Key responsibilities: Design and build cloud-native streaming and batch data pipelines using AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Python. Develop scalable solutions for data processing and standardization, especially for live CV data and large historical datasets. Collaborate with Data Science teams to better understand their needs and optimize pipelines for production. Refactor and enhance proof-of-concept models for production-grade performance and scalability. Implement Python libraries to support data pipelines and feature engineering efforts. Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using best practices for scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency. Use observability tools (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana) to ensure robust monitoring and debugging. Mentor junior engineers, sharing best practices and technical guidance. * This role does not involve direct Data Science, Machine Learning, or ML Platform work (ML models are designed and trained by a dedicated Predictive Modelling team) Role primarily focuses on Solution Architecture, Data/Feature engineering, Infrastructure, CI/CD, Ops for ML-based products. Required qualifications: Proficiency in Python and its data libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy). Strong background in data engineering and processing (standardizing live and historical data). Experience with event-driven systems and distributed architecture. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes for deployment and scaling. Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, Kinesis, API Gateway). Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset. Desired qualifications : Knowledge of Data Science and Machine Learning concepts; understanding models as black boxes while building pipelines around them. Background in Computer Vision or experience working with CV datasets. Experience in CI/CD pipeline development (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions). Familiarity with logging and monitoring frameworks (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana). Motivation to experiment with new technologies and create solutions in fast-paced environments. Side projects or personal experimentation with data/ML technologies. Why work at Stats Perform? We love sports, but we love diverse thinking more!
