Job Description

An exciting position with great professional and managerial responsibility and with lots of opportunities and leeway in a very special shipping company with a collaborative culture, a "good tone" - and with maps from thought to action

As part of the shipping company's management group of 5, you contribute to the overall cross-cutting management of the entire shipping company, and you are expected to engage in and contribute to the entire business and the well-being of the shipping company. The management group is an important and prioritized part of the management of the shipping company. It is already working well and will need to be restarted when you and the new traffic director come on board.

As chief captain, you become "a big fish in a small pond" and shoulder a great deal of responsibility and a great variety of tasks.

Your areas of responsibility are

Overall responsible for the DPA role - and coordination of internal and external audits
Responsible for onboard implementation of Cyber Security policies
Responsible for deck maintenance being implemented in the ships' PMS (Sertica)
Responsible for the distribution of the captains' responsibilities and tasks
Ongoing review of the shipping company's ISM – and a number of other supervisory and monitoring procedures that ensure that the shipping company always meets rules and requirements and maintains the profession's "best practices"
Stay on top of new and applicable laws and regulations that affect the operation - and keep up to date with "best practices" in the field

Personal tasks

Nautical management, setting clear guidelines for captains and ships
Personnel management of 20-25 captains, mates and ship's assistants:

Appointments and dismissals
Hold employee development interviews for nautical personnel
Responsible for other contractual matters
Duty planning and management of staff time consumption for ship personnel

Budget manager – management of nautical accounts, including focus on energy consumption
Contact with relevant authorities in nautical matters – including annual DMA
Now and then steer a ship yourself on the company's 2 ferries

The position offers a high degree of mutual flexibility - also in relation to organizing your own working time. The rule of thumb is that you are 80% on land and 3-4 days a week on Samsø.

We are looking for a skilled chief captain who has

Training as a ship's master
Great understanding of and experience with ISM, possibly certified as ISM Lead Auditor
Generally extensive knowledge of and experience with maritime legislation and regulation
Sailed  passenger traffic in Europe
Have tried your hand at the leadership role - or at least have a great desire and talent for management

You can lead – and you do
Together with the new traffic director, you set the framework for the nautical department.
It is absolutely essential that you can support and coach both captains and chief mates in a qualified manner - and establish yourself as the natural authority who, in dialogue with the environment, ensures that we have clear and well-known guidelines and standards. In this way, you ensure that agreements, policies, budgets and maritime regulations come to life in everyday life.

You are motivated by taking responsibility and can see yourself in a small organization with a short distance between the chains, and where you will in future have an influence on the development of both the shipping company and new tonnage.

Samsø Rederi lives by happy guests, where the sailing trip to and from the island is a positive experience. As a manager, you contribute to further developing the already service-oriented mindset of the staff on board the ferries PRINSESSE ISABELLA and LILLEØRE.

You can lead ships and people
You take an interest in other people and are both present and communicative in all arenas – towards colleagues, guests, suppliers, authorities and not least the many people for whom the shipping company and the ferries are of great importance in everyday life. You are clear and orderly in your communication and management and can create support for your course - and most importantly, you are on target to ensure that we reach port safely every time. You have an above-average commitment and energy level, and you have a good mood and are generally experienced as good company.

If you can be motivated by this task, and if you possess most of the experiences and skills mentioned, this could be your next exciting managerial challenge.
